The 2009 edition of ‘On Your Own’ is here!

The 2009 edition of the Maine State Bar Association’s popular “On Your Own,” our free booklet that helps prepare young people for some of the legal complexities of adulthood, is available for download now by clicking HERE.

“On Your Own” has been printed and published for more than a quarter century, primarily for distribution through Maine high schools to graduating seniors.

The 2009 edition, essentially a downloadable PDF, has several advantages over previous versions. In addition to immediate and unlimited availability to everyone who wants a copy, the PDF version has numerous website links and cross-references “hot” links. This means readers can instantly read the additional information available at these links, both within “On Your Own” and on the World Wide Web.

In past years, “On Your Own” was published as a 5.5 x 8.5-inch booklet. The 2009 edition, however,  has been redesigned so that downloads may be printed easily on standard letter-size paper.

Maine high schools and libraries will soon receive the 2009 “On Your Own” on compact discs, each with an accompanying printed version for reference purposes, for curriculum and onsite reading use.

The booklet’s September release makes it more useful to teachers, guidance counselors and others who use “On Your Own” in educational programs.

LRIS is “The Right Call” When You Need a Lawyer
The Right Call for the Right Lawyer is the slogan trademarked by the American Bar Association for use by lawyer referral services meeting the ABA’s standards of professional experience criteria, accountability, and public service. This summer, the Lawyer Referral and Information Service of the Maine State Bar Association became one of fewer than 70 referral services nationwide authorized to use this slogan and the ABA seal of approval.

As an impartial not-for-profit professional and public service, the Lawyer Referral & Information Service is, more clearly now than ever, the most effective access point for members of the public looking for assistance with legal issues.
